Artists Statement
"Space and Confinement" is a collaborative exhibition between two Bradford based printmakers whose emphasis is on the process and how it defines the progression of ideas and influences.

This project began in the Positively Purple gallery during the summer of 2005 when, through FABRIC (Forum for the Arts in Bradford), we gained access to studio space in one of the Broadway buildings scheduled for demolition in autumn of that year. The crux of the project was our reaction to the changing appearance of Bradford centre and the effect of demolition and construction in the surrounding urban environment. Through this opportunity, we identified connections and differences in our individual ideas, using this exchange of thought to inform and further our practices.

Both of us have a strong background in process directed printmaking and since vacating the studio space, we have directly influenced each others workings and combined to make collaborative work.

Pete Blagg
My work is concerned with using depth, texture and tone to create tension within a composition. I am interested in collage within a printmaking context and the way unrelated images placed together can infer the narrative.

Thomas Bolland
Recent works reflect on the architecture in urban environments and how it defines our journeys. Through these compositions, I attempt to capture a sense of momentum that leads the viewer through the recordings of representational and fictionally constructed journeys.

This collaborative project has been a valuable learning experience and works produced by each of us individually, reflect the influence that we have had on each other through working together.
