In 2018, we will reach the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of literature’s most famous siblings, Emily Brontë who was born just a few hundred yards from the South Square Centre. To raise awareness of this internationally significant part of Thornton’s heritage, we will mark Emily’s birth with exhibitions; events, creative workshops and a birthday party.

Exhibition Opens: Friday 05 October, 6 - 9pm South Square Centre will also be opening a new exhibition showcasing this year’s Joan Day Painting Bursary recipient. The award was presented local artist Marie Collier. Marie will be using the bursary to combine parts of her practice explore her mixed-media practice combining video, light projection and painted surfaces.
