Closed or open, in varying states of repair, they have a visual appeal for him. Often, it’s to do with their colour, their texture or their construction. Beyond that there’s sometimes the trace of a story: doors apparently abandoned and forever-locked; walls that could have been the work of an abstract painter; or carry scratched and sprayed messages.

THE MILL NEXT DOOR  by Sylvi Gibbs Sylvi’s inspiration comes from the beauty of  the worsted cloth produced in the mill next door to her home. The mill was destroyed by fire in 2012. Of Real Worlds

In 2018, we will reach the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of literature’s most famous siblings, Emily Brontë who was born just a few hundred yards from the South Square Centre. To raise awareness of this internationally significant part of Thornton’s heritage, we will mark Emily’s birth with exhibitions; events, creative workshops and a birthday party.
