South Square curates several gallery spaces which provide a range of exhibiting opportunities for artists and the community. These galleries include; South Square Gallery, the Meeting Room Gallery, the Community Room, Unit 9 Gallery, the Sculpture Garden and the Cafe Gallery. All exhibitions at South Square are synchronise, enabling all exhibiting artists to preview their work alongside each other on our opening nights.

South Square Gallery is the Centre's main gallery, committed to providing a professional and supportive resource for artists and emerging curators. Established in 1982 South Square Gallery has built up a strong reputation as an integral and ambitious contemporary art venue in the North. South Square Gallery is run by a team led by Artistic Programme Manager David Knowles.

The Meeting Room provides an intimate gallery space for both established and emerging artist primarily based within Yorkshire. Curated by Patricia Calver.

The Community Room provides a large and practical space for the local community to host events, activities and workshops, as well as develop projects and exhibitions that showcases the ideas and artistic talent from local artists, schools, clubs and societies.

Unit 9 is an independent collective of artists from across Yorkshire, who rent the Unit 9 gallery space and programme their own exhibitions and events in conjunction with South Square Gallery.

The Sculpture Garden, located behind South Square, provides a unique outdoor space for the display of sculptural and three dimensional works. Each year, in spring, South Square curates a new open exhibition of sculptural work.

South Square occasionally hosts sound installations in the centre's public toilets. Find out more about the installations.

The Cafe Gallery presents a rolling programme of exhibitions including painting, drawing, print and photography. Curated by Barabara Young.
